President’s Welcome - Chris Akers I am pleased and excited to be elected the President of the Razorbacks Rugby Club and I am looking forward to building on the good work of past committees. Hello everybody and welcome to the Razorbacks Rugby Club in 2012. I particularly welcome new families, many who are new to our great game, and a couple of families who have joined us from other clubs. The Razorbacks is currently thriving at all levels with teams in nearly all age groups over 300 players registered with our mini’s section, a vibrant and very successful junior set-up, a large and talented Under 19’s team and a Grade Squad that retains most of last year’s squad plus some exciting new additions. I would like to wish all of our coaches, managers, background personnel and players the very best of luck for the coming rugby year. Best wishes to our Senior and Junior Vice Presidents – Darren Druett and Matt Ritchie, who take responsibility for all rugby matters in the club. You have our total support. I am also certain that you will get great encouragement and support from the Razorbacks Supporters. I am also happy to have the support of our previous Secretary, Simon Evans and Treasurer, Glenn Ramsay who continue their contribution solidly in the background and also to the many members of the various committees who are work tirelessly and are essentially the backbone of the club. I also want to thank our previous President - Warren Beattie and Vice President - Paul Harding-Davis for their hard work over the last three years and congratulate them on the growth of the club under their leadership. I am delighted that Warren and Paul will be again assisting behind the scene. I would particularly like to thank our sponsors who contribute so valuably to the running of our club. Once again we have the backing of our main sponsors Hogs Breath Restaurant _ Tuggerah & Terrigal and Refreshing Pool Services for which we are very grateful. Thanks also to all the companies and individuals who sponsor our jerseys, without your generous support the Razorbacks would not be the Club it is or be able to strive to become the Club it wants to be. A quick word about the code of conduct. As I’m sure everyone would agree, refereeing is a thankless job which pays very little, and frankly it gets harder to find people willing to take it on. We at the Razorbacks aim for the best example to our children. Please remember, regardless of any frustration, referees rarely decide the outcome of games. It is after all a game – and one that teaches our players discipline and fair play. Let’s not spoil a game for them by inappropriate comments from the sideline! In closing, I would like to thank the players because without you our Saturdays would be less entertaining. Yours in Rugby. Chris Akers- President |
